Meet our 2020 artists + designers:
Derick Brooks
I’m a cartoonist from Newport News, Virginia working in comics literary publishing and animation. I love to create adventure fantasy, soft sci-fi, and slice of life stories about people of color. I’m currently illustrating the book series Bright Family (Epic!) and in production of my first graphic novel Grip Up! (Iron Circus Comics) coming in 2022.
My style is defined by round shapes, bold lines, and vivid colors. I love to keep things simple, expressive, and fun!
Vanessa de la Rosa
I’m a graphic designer from Chesterfield, VA. I enjoy illustrating during my free time. Not only do I love to design, but I love to play and create makeup looks.
My style is simple, clean, and minimal. I do a lot of line work, such as bold black lines. I usually work in black and white with a pop of color.
Ebonee Harris
My name is Ebonee Harris, I am a Graphic Designer living in Richmond VA, I often enjoy the challenges and rewards of brand identity as well as layout design.
My art style is minimalistic and clean usually including a wide range of typography as well as a pop of color.
Amarri Parker
My name is Amarri Parker and I am currently a Senior at Virginia State University. I major is graphic design with a specialty in digital illustration and logos. I have been told I have an eye for detail, and I like to incorporate a lot of it when I can. If it’s one thing you should remember about me is that I don’t do boring. I like to infuse pop culture with traditional design.
I will always aim to keep my work modern and upbeat. No one wants anything that is lackluster, so why create such things? I won’t even allow my color palette to be subpar! Simplicity is good, but it never hurts to be a bit extra.
Francisco Umana
I’m a graphic designer from Washington, DC. I love to create illustrations, and hand draw typography. I’m currently one of the partners of “The Underdogs”, a street-wear clothing design company.
My work is consisted of typography, design, and photography. I love to create text designs and illustrations for some of my favorite songs, or even tv shows.
